Perched in the beating heart of downtown New Orleans, the California Building is a mid-century landmark reimagined as an intimate luxury suites hotel. Seamlessly blending the clean lines of International-style architecture with richly appointed interiors and modern comforts, our property offers a refined base for guests who expect privacy, service, and an authentic New Orleans experience.
Our History
The California Building was erected during the post-World War II building boom that reshaped New Orleans’ civic and commercial corridors. Its name echoes a notable corporate tenant of the mid-20th century—the California Union Insurance Co.—and for decades the building served as office space for banks, insurers and local commerce. By the 2010s the property underwent an extensive conversion program, transforming offices into apartments and later into upscale short-term rental residences, while retaining many of the building’s original materials and character.
In recent years the building has changed hands with investors and operators recognizing its unique combination of historic presence and downtown location; those efforts included interior upgrades and the addition of lifestyle amenities for residents and guests.
